Join Us: Protecting Human Rights In A Time of War: Noa Sattath in conversation with Adam Wagner

Dear Friend,

Please join us on Sunday 15th September between 6:00-7:30pm for an evening with ACRI’s Noa Sattath, in conversation with esteemed human rights barrister Adam Wagner. The event will be held in NW3.

Noa is the Executive Director of the Association for Civil Rights Israel (ACRI), the oldest and largest civil society organisation in Israel. ACRI was NIF UK’s Human Rights Award Winner in 2020 and 2016, honoured for their outstanding work in the field.

In this time of ongoing war and tension in Israel, and with the most extreme right-wing government at the helm, human rights abuses and threats to democracy and the rule of law pass under the radar. ACRI is at the forefront of protecting minorities whose rights have been severely infringed and ensuring that regulations remain in place.

One of ACRI’s current petitions is for the Israeli government to close the Sde Teiman detention centre for its atrocious conditions for Palestinian prisoners, all taking place under the ‘protective’ shadow of war.

Since the start of the war, ACRI has been advocating for the citizens of East Jerusalem, most of whom have no access to shelters either in their homes or neighbourhoods. This is also true in many Arab towns in the north, which have very few public shelters and have been left to mostly fend for themselves against the threat of rockets. ACRI is currently petitioning for adequate defence in these areas.

About Noa: Noa is an ordained reform rabbi and was formerly the executive director of the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC) which works to ensure equality and religious pluralism in Israel.

Before IRAC, Noa served as Executive Director of the Jerusalem Open House for Pride and Tolerance, an organisation which provides services for the LGBTQ community in Jerusalem. While there, Noa helped lead the historic first Pride March in the city.

Noa also served as Executive Director for MEET, an organisation that uses technology to develop the joint leadership of young Israelis and Palestinians from Israel and the West Bank.

About Adam: Adam Wagner is an esteemed barrister specialising in human rights, international and public law and public inquiries. He has participated in ground-breaking cases, including relating to the right to protest and the law relating to Covid-19. Currently, he is acting for the families of British and British-linked hostages of Hamas in Gaza.

Adam is the founder and chair of Each Other, a human rights charity focused on public education. He is also a Visiting Professor of Law at Goldsmiths, University of London.

The event will be taking place between 6:00-7:30 pm and will be held in NW3. The exact location will be sent to you a few days before the event.

We hope you’ll join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening with two of the sharpest and most incisive minds working in the field of human rights law.
