Meet our Award Winners, MC & More: Rising Stars, Sunday November 10th

Dear Friend,

Join us at our inspiring Human Rights Awards ‘Rising Stars’ on Sunday 10th November 2024, in Leicester Square. Tickets are £30-£75; you can book them here.

This year has been seismic for Israel, and the turbulence that the country and the region are experiencing shows no sign of easing. We will be grappling with this together, trying to understand better how we move towards a different, more hopeful future based on equality and justice.

Our Rising Stars evening will feature superb, thought-provoking, and current content in an immersive setting. The formal part of the evening will be followed by a relaxed reception where you’ll have a chance to catch up with other guests over hot bowl food.

On the night we’ll be screening short films made about our exceptional Award Winners, Rawyah Handakalu (National Forum to Combat Violence in Palestinian Society) and Eran Nissan (Mehazkim), and hearing from them directly about how they’re creating change and bringing hope.

They’ll be joining us in person in London in conversation with CNN ‘Amanpour’ journalist, +972 co-founder, and Israel24 TV anchor Ami Kaufman. Guiding us through the evening will be award-winning comedian and activist Noam Shuster-Eliassi.

More On Our Winners:

Rawyah Handakalu – National Taskforce Combating Crime and Violence in Arab Society

A dynamic, articulate, leader, lawyer Rawyah is at the head of the newly formed National Taskforce Combating Crime and Violence in Arab Society. Organised crime within Arab towns in Israel has reached a crisis point in the last two years, with the current government’s widespread neglect of the issue widely accepted as a major contributing factor.

Rawyah holds an MA in public policy from Haifa University, where she currently lives.

She was instrumental as a consultant in the NIS 10 billion 922 national economic programme for developing Arab society and is recognised by Calcalist (Israel’s leading financial paper) and Haaretz as ‘one to watch’. Over her impressive professional career, she has been involved in a number of joint Jewish-Arab regional council leadership projects and held roles with NIF grantees Adalah and Kayan.

Rawyah, a Palestinian Citizen from the village of Jatt in Israel’s ‘triangle’ area, has been campaigning on gender-based and political issues since she was a small child.

Eran Nissan – Mehazkim

Eran is an impressive vision-orientated Jewish Israeli leader and the CEO of Mehazkim, a digital activism movement that reaches 1.5 million Israelis a month. Through on-the-ground protests and digital campaigns, Mehazkim is working effectively to strengthen the democratic camp in Israel. Mehazkim’s model of change works to energise and empower the progressive base in Israel and from this place of power persuade those in the mainstream to ‘connect the dots’ and imagine a different political future.

Eran is also part of a group working on new visions for political horizons in Geneva. In 2019 Eran interned in a congressional office in Washington D.C. as part of the ‘New Story Leadership’ programme.

We’re thrilled that award-winning Israeli activist and comedian Noam Shuster-Eliassi will be our MC. You can see some of her satirical, biting stand-up here and watch her talk about decades of peace activism here.
