I know many of you, as I have been, will be worried about and in touch with family and friends as we are reeling from a terrifying day.

Not in fifty years and never in my lifetime have we seen this scale of surprise attack on Israel, Israeli towns, and civilians.

We are horrified by today’s attack.

We are determined to support Israel and all Israelis to live in safety, and one day, to live with dignity and justice.

I am taking heart from our colleagues and friends within the New Israel Fund, Shatil and the courageous organisations we and you support.

Right now, including at our office in Be’er Sheva, they are helping the most vulnerable and working to avoid more bloodshed.

The New Israel Fund is shocked and horrified by this attack on Israel. We stand in support and solidarity with the people of Israel on this dark and difficult day. We pray for all those who have been affected by this terrible attack, and for a swift end to this violence. We and our grantees will continue to work for peace, to calm tensions between Israel’s communities, and to support the most vulnerable people in Israel at this moment of crisis.

NIF is already moving to provide emergency support to grantee organisations and community groups on the frontlines working to help those need at this moment, to reinforce solidarity between Jews and Arabs in Israel, and to counter any kind of extremism, racism, or inter-communal violence. Our Be’er Sheva office in the south of Israel is hard at work, even as the violence continues, to support those civil society organisations shining a light during this dark time.
