Join us to visit social justice activists and organizations—a chance to experience firsthand the work you are supporting on the ground and meet the partners who are creating a more inclusive, just and democratic Israel.
Join NIF for a one-day intensive look at Israel and see in person how NIF’s 40 years of work building a shared, inclusive and more democratic society have shaped Israel. On this special day we will meet and learn with NIF’s former Executive Director in Israel Eliezer Yaari, a native Jerusalemite and acclaimed journalist. Eliezer will guide us on a unique visit to East Jerusalem exploring the area’s challenges and complexity, as well as the many groups and voices working towards social justice, shared society, human rights, and an end to the occupation. The itinerary will help us understand how these movements’ interact and connect with one another, as well as how they react and respond to daily changes on the ground. It’s sure to be an exciting and educational experience!
Eliezer is the former Executive Director of the New Israel Fund in Israel. He doubled the activities of NIF and Shatil, has been a leading figure in Jewish-Arab relations, began Israel Ventures Network, developed the Education for Democracy /Active Citizenship and anti-incitement programs and partnered NIF with leading Israeli and international foundations. Born in Jerusalem in 1949, Yaari holds a BA in History & Philosophy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an MA in Public Administration from JFK School of Government at Harvard University. Eliezer served as a pilot in the Israeli Air Force from 1967 to 1976 when he retired with the rank of major. He then became a key newsroom figure at Israel Broadcasting Authority where he was program director for IBA television from 1992 to 1995. Eliezer is the author of a novel, Crossings, and a short story collection, as well as numerous articles, reviews and a blog.
