Join us at UKJF, 7th – 17th November
Dear Friend,
Join us and our partners at UK Jewish Film Festival for some truly groundbreaking cinema this November (7-17th).
We have recently expanded our partnership with them and will be sponsoring five fantastic films this year, which you can search for in their website under ‘New Israel Fund Strand.’
At the New Israel Fund, we strongly believe in the power of film to give voice to silenced or marginalised groups and bring to light issues that rarely capture national media attention.

Home
In this tense and powerful drama, based on a true story, an ambitious man abandons his life of Torah study to open a computer business in their ultra-Orthodox Jerusalem neighbourhood. Whilst the new venture is a runaway success, it also attracts the attention and anger of the local rabbinical supervisory committee. Winner of Best Actor at the Israeli Film Academy 2023, this fast-paced and compelling film explores the sharper and darker edges of communal politics and control in ultra-Orthodox neighbourhoods. Sun, November 10, 6:30 PM, Phoenix Cinema East Finchley |
The Milky Way
A young single mother, Tala, works at a factory where breast milk is expressed, stored, and distributed. A chance meeting with one of the company’s wealthy clients and a confused young mother, makes both of them consider their positions as women negatively affected by a patriarchal society. This brilliantly poignant drama, Ofir Price winner for best script, questions the strongly held belief — especially in Israel — that all women want to become mothers, and that parenthood is the main, if not sole, path to self-fulfilment. Monday, November 11 8.40pm , JW3 Cinema |

Farewell Column
A famous newspaper columnist (Dror Keren) is identified by an angry mob as a leftist traitor. The target of a vicious hate campaign, he insists on continuing to express his opinions while doing his best to protect his family, especially his ageing parents and autistic son. Blurring the lines between fiction and reality, this thrillingly urgent black-and-white drama is a powerful and poignant comment on Israel’s ongoing political and social crisis. Tuesday, November 12, 8:30 PM, JW3 Cinema |
The Stronghold
Dr. Nahum Werbin (Michael Aloni), a reserve combat medic, arrives at a remote outpost in Sinai on the eve of Yom Kippur, in 1973. When the war breaks out, his fellow soldiers are killed or wounded, and medical supplies run short. The outpost is under Egyptian siege, and the Israeli army fails to reach them. Against the wishes of the outpost’s commander (Daniel Gad), Werbin tries to convince his fellow soldiers to surrender in order to save their lives. Including an Introduction with the actor Daniel Gad Thursday, November 14, 7:00 PM, Phoenix Cinema East Finchley |

Taboo: Amos Guttman
Amos Guttman, a Romanian-born Israeli filmmaker, passed away at the age of 38 after completing his last feature, ‘Amazing Grace’. His legacy continues to inspire with his daringly political and highly aestheticized work, giving voice to marginalized groups. Taboo, a documentary, explores his unique artistry through interviews with peers and family, offering a fitting tribute to his talent. Sunday, November 17, 2024 9:40 PM, Curzon Bloomsbury |
