Democracy Under Fire
Join our colleagues in the US and Israel for a webinar this Monday, 9th March, 16:30 on the current situation in Israel and across the Middle East.
The webinar will be moderated by Idit Klein, VP for public engagement, with opening remarks from acting Global CEO, Mickey Gitzin.
We will hear from three speakers providing analysis and firsthand perspectives from the ground:
• Gil Murciano, CEO of Mitvim, will offer geopolitical analysis and reflect on the role of diplomacy and policy institutions in moments like this.
• Huda Abu Obaid, CEO of the Negev Coexistence Forum and a member of the Negev Emergency Response Center, will speak about the challenges facing Bedouin citizens during the war.
• Nadav Weiman, CEO of Breaking the Silence, will address the increase in settler violence in the West Bank since the outbreak of the war.

Earlier this week, we sent a message from David Davidi Brown, our Chief Executive, on the current crisis:
I’m writing to you from Tel Aviv, where I’ve had a glimpse of the reality of war and fear people here face far too often.
Earlier this week, I saw families settling in for the night in a public shelter, with mattresses and sleeping bags – a reminder that reaching safety from home, especially with young children, cannot be taken for granted.
I thought of last June, when NIF helped open one of the largest public shelters in south Tel Aviv for some of the city’s poorest residents, including refugees and asylum seekers. Thankfully, it is there for them again now.
Even now, as missiles and sirens disrupt daily life, loved ones are called up to reserve duty and children remain at home – our colleagues and our partners continue supporting the communities that need it most.
With your support, this vital work continues. While this appeal highlights three urgent areas, our determination remains the same: to work for a future of safety, dignity and equality for every person living on this land.
