ACRI Campaign Targets Subtle Racism
The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) recently released a video (below) which highlights the issue of ‘hidden racism’ in society. The video, which was released to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, explains that while it may be easy to see ‘open racism,’ there are many instances of racism or other forms of discrimination which are easy to miss.

The video explains, “Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It’s an excellent time to stop for a moment and think about the hidden messages that we transmit to each other, even unintentionally, even what might sound innocent to us. Because hidden racism hurts, and we are all guilty of it.”
Accompanying the video is a link to an educational resource on the ACRI website. The resource is intended for educators, to allow them to educate about the issue of hidden racism and discrimination in society.
The resource explains, “Education against racism is actually education for human rights, democracy, multiculturalism and tolerance.”
The webpage highlights the importance of understanding the concept of ‘micro-aggressions’ which “occur on a daily basis, in a non-blunt, covert and even unconscious manner, and sometimes without the intention of deliberately harming the speaker.”
