Palestinian Citizens of Israel
Advancing Equality for All Israelis –
NIF seeks to promote full equality for Palestinian citizens of Israel, who comprise 20% of Israel’s population, and to enhance their participation in Israel’s democratic processes and institutions.
The Palestinian-Israeli community is the main national non-Jewish minority within Israel and is affected directly by the historical Israeli-Arab conflict. Discrimination against this minority is rife in land planning and distribution, education, municipal funding, representation of Palestinian citizens in decision-making bodies, and more. NIF invests in efforts to promote civic engagement in the local arena. This can both be a starting point for broader political involvement and a means of strengthening the overall community.
New Regulations Allow Compensation for “Price Tag” Damage
New legislation ensures compensation for Palestinian Israeli victims of hate crimes.
An Important Victory for Arab Land Rights
In a precedent-setting ruling, the Haifa Magistrate Court approved a settlement against a real estate developer who discriminated against Arab buyers. Flagship NIF grantee the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) played an important role in this case fighting discrimination in land allocation.
